Bachelor Degree Program

Prospective students are encouraged to meet with a counselor to assess their readiness for the program and to consider applying in a future admissions cycle. The B.S. in Biomanufacturing Program is a full-time 2-year bachelor's degree completion program. The program is hybrid with courses in-person and online. Students admitted to the Fall 2026 cohort attend classes on Tuesdays & Thursdays during the Fall and Spring semesters. Fall 2027 students will attend courses Mondays and Wednesdays. The program is limited to 24 students per cohort.

About the Program

The Biomanufacturing bachelor's degree program develops students' skills, abilities, and knowledge to work in the unique biological manufacturing environment. The full-time program prepares students for employment in technical or quality positions in the manufacturing sector of the biotechnology industry, which includes biotherapeutics, diagnostics, supplies and services, and industrial products.

This is a full-time, two-year bachelor's degree program built upon Moorpark's Cybersecurity Associate Degree. The Bachelor's program is entirely online with an in-person lab option.

What is the Bachelor's Degree Program at Moorpark College?

By law, California Community Colleges can now offer bachelor's degree programs in academic areas with a regional labor market need. In fact, the Board of Governors may approve up to 30 new programs across our state per year.

At Moorpark College, the Bachelor Degree Program currently includes a B.S. in Biomanufacturing. We also have an Applied Cyberdefense Network Operations program, opening soon. Students can begin their journey with our flexible certificate and associate degree programs in both areas and apply to the corresponding 2-year bachelor's degree completion program.

As part of the Ventura County Community College District, our sister campuses also offer bachelor's degrees: Ventura College offers a B.S. in Automotive Career Education, and Oxnard College offers a B.S. in Dental Hygiene.

Is the bachelor's degree earned at a California Community College the same as the degree earned at a California State University, University of California, or private university?

The California State University and University of California are accredited by WASC. Moorpark College is accredited by ACCJC/WASC and our bachelor's degree programs fall within this accreditation. Graduate programs will accept Moorpark College bachelor degrees in the same way other WASC-accredited undergraduate programs are accepted. 

Currently, Solano College and MiraCosta College, have successfully graduated several classes of students with a bachelor of science in Biomanufacturing across the state. 

Which classes should I take to prepare for the bachelor's degree program?

Both bachelor degree programs build on our existing certificates and associate degrees in their respective areas. Students are encouraged to meet with an academic counselor and create a 4-year plan that includes applying to bachelor completion here at Moorpark College.

What is the General Education (GE) certification requirement, and when is it due?

General Education (GE) completion is required to graduate from the bachelor’s degree program, as 120 college units are required. Depending on the bachelor degree program, lower division GE completion may be required at the time of admission for competitive programs or where space is limited. However, the bachelor degree program has the discretion to admit students without GE completion. Those students will need to complete their GEs in a co-enrollment model along with their upper-division bachelor degree units. Lower-division GE courses are typically available every semester, both in-person and online.

Is there a guaranteed admissions process for current students?

The bachelor degree programs require a separate admissions application. Students apply to complete their upper-division coursework as part of a bachelor degree completion program. Currently, there is no guaranteed admissions process. However, the bachelor degree program builds on the existing Associate of Science programs. Current students are advised to update their Student Education Plans with a college counselor to ensure prerequisite courses and general education certification requirements are met.

I'm interested in Community College bachelor degree completion but my major is something else, what should I do?

The list of California Community College bachelor degrees grows each year. Nearly 40 programs are available across the system. Currently, Ventura County Community College District offers 3 bachelor degree programs in Biomanufacturing, Dental Hygiene, and Career Automotive. We also have two additional programs pending final approval in Applied Cyberdefense Network Operations and Applied Advocacy & Organizing. 

Students are encouraged to visit the Transfer Center to learn more about bachelor degree programs in their majors and areas of interest. 

As a bachelor degree student, will I have priority enrollment?

Bachelor degree program courses are upper-division 300 and 400 level. These courses are restricted to bachelor degree program students, who are guaranteed enrollment in these upper-division courses.

Students admitted on a conditional basis or those working on lower-division General Education completion do not have priority registration as bachelor degree students but may qualify for priority registration if they meet criteria such as being foster youth, student parents, veterans, or other protected statuses.

All students on the waitlist for a course should email the instructor to request being added. Let the instructor know the situation and request an add code.

I'm interested in taking some of the 300 & 400-level upper-division bachelor degree courses, but I am not in a bachelor degree program. Can I still enroll?

Students cannot enroll or audit upper-division courses unless they are admitted to the bachelor degree program. This requirement is mandated by California Education Code. Enrollment restrictions are in place by program and course.  

I already hold a Bachelor degree, can I still apply and complete a second bachelor degree? 

Yes. Students who hold a bachelor degree from a WASC-accredited college or university can waive the general education completion requirement. Students are still required to meet program-specific prerequisite requirements.

Can I get credit for courses taken at another college or university, and if so, how do I go about that process?

Students are advised to meet with a counselor to discuss their enrollment history in high school, on advanced placement tests, to request credit for prior learning, or to transfer units. External transcripts must be official and sent to the Admissions & Records office at Moorpark College. A separate Transcript Evaluation Request must be completed for them to be reviewed and applied. Please note this process can take up to 6 weeks..

Typically, lower-division courses with a common course ID (C-ID) and/or listed on an existing articulation agreement can be applied to meet lower-division requirements at Moorpark College. Currently, we do not have articulation or transfer agreements for upper-division major coursework or general education.

Can I attend the bachelor degree program part-time due to work and family obligations or preference?

Unfortunately, the program model is pre-planned and does not accommodate part-time attendance. Students are advised to review the sample course schedule and discuss any concerns in advance with a college counselor, the bachelor degree program director, and/or the department chair.

Applying to the California Community College Bachelor's Degree program is a two-step process. Step 1: Apply to attend Moorpark College, Step 2: Apply to the Bachelor Degree Program.

• All Bachelor Degree Program (BDP) applicants must first apply for Admission to Moorpark College via the California Community College CCCApply. Becoming a student at Moorpark College is free and easy.

Moorpark College/VCCCD students receive:

• Ventura County Community College District (VCCCD) Student ID 900 or 901#
• myVCCCD Email Address
• Access to Bachelor Degree Program (BDP) Application for their intended program of study
   

For Biomanufacturing B.S. Applicants:

• All Biomanufacturing students (current VCCCD students, returning VCCCD students, and students new to VCCCD) must complete a new CCCApply application and select the Biomanufacturing B.S. program to gain access to the online admissions application. 
• Returning students may make changes to their e-mail address, phone number, or address on the MyVCCCD Student Portal

For Applied Cyberdefense B.S. Applicants:

• Only students new to VCCCD must complete a CCCApply application in order to gain a 901# and VCCCD email address. 
• Returning students may use their existing 900 0r 901# to access the Applied Cyberdefense application.

The B.S. in Biomanufacturing program is limited to 24 students per cohort.

Qualified applicants will be selected for admission based on a comprehensive review process that gives additional weight to the following:

• Percentage of lower-division major preparation completed at the time of applying.
• Completion of an associate degree in biomanufacturing or equivalent.
• Completion of lower-division general education requirements.
• GPA in lower-division major preparation courses.
• Employment in the biotechnology/biomedical industry, including internships.
• Relevant life experiences or special circumstances, such as disabilities, low family income, first-generation college student, DACA/AB 540, former foster youth, veteran status, and other criteria.
• Updated Student Education plan for the B.S. Biomanufacturing Program mapping all coursework for the major and GE certification (CSU Breadth, IGETC, Cal-GETC, or the equivalent).

Step 2. Indicate the Term, Educational Goal, Major Category, and BDP Program you are applying to.

Note: The B.S. Program option will only be available during the application period. Students who are interested, not yet ready to apply to the Bachelor's Degree Program should select the Associate Degree level. 

Step 3. Complete all remaining sections of the application: Profile, Education, Citizenship/Military, Residency, Needs & Interests, Demographic Information, Supplemental Questions, and Submit Application

What is the cost of a bachelor's degree at Moorpark College?

Students will continue to benefit from low-cost tuition ($46 per unit) for their first two years of study. Upon admission to the bachelor's degree program, an additional ($84 per unit) is added for their final two years of study for a total of ($130 per unit). Students may apply for financial aid and scholarships each year.

When should I apply for Financial Aid?

You should apply for financial aid by submitting your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) as early as possible. The FAFSA is typically due in March for the following academic year to ensure your eligibility for specific grants is reviewed. However, you can submit your FAFSA at any time of the year, and your eligibility will be reviewed and shared with you as soon as possible.

We recommend that you apply for your FAFSA as soon as you apply for the bachelor's degree program.

Can I use FAFSA if I already have a Bachelor's degree? 

Yes, you may qualify for federal, state, and institutional financial aid until you have met all requirements for your first major. After that, only courses required for your second major can be considered for federal loans and work-study.

What financial aid is available for second-degree students?

If you have graduated with a bachelors degree and are pursuing a second bachelors degree you are considered a second-degree student. If you have completed all coursework required for an undergraduate degree and are eligible to graduate you would also be classified as second-degree when applying for future aid.

Second-degree students are eligible for federal loans, work-study programs, scholarships, state aid, or to pursue private loan options. Loan eligibility will be based on what you have borrowed as an undergraduate student, and when looking at loan limits, you would reference the chart here for third-year and beyond undergraduate limit.  

Please note that once you have earned a bachelor’s degree or your first professional degree, or you’ve used up all 12 semesters of your eligibility, you are no longer eligible to receive a Federal Pell Grant.
