Benefits Programs

The Post-9/11 GI Bill® provides educational benefits to eligible veterans and service members who served on active duty after September 10, 2001. Benefits may include tuition and fees, a monthly housing allowance, and money for books and supplies.

The Montgomery GI Bill® provides up to 36 months of educational benefits to eligible veterans and service members who meet qualifying active-duty service requirements.

This program provides up to 36 months of educational benefits to eligible members of the Selected Reserve, including the National Guard.

Veteran Readiness and Employment (Chapter 31)

The Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E) program, also known as Chapter 31, helps eligible veterans and service members with service-connected disabilities prepare for, obtain, and maintain suitable employment.

Depending on your approved rehabilitation plan, benefits may include educational counseling, college tuition and fees, required books and supplies, and a monthly subsistence allowance.

Who May Qualify?

Veterans with a VA service-connected disability rating of at least 10% may be eligible to apply. The VA determines individual eligibility and entitlement to VR&E services.

This program provides educational assistance to eligible spouses and children of veterans or service members who have died, are missing, or have a permanent and total service-connected disability.

CalVet College Fee Waiver

The CalVet College Fee Waiver provides eligible spouses and children of qualifying veterans with a waiver of tuition and mandatory systemwide fees at California public colleges and universities. Eligibility requirements vary by program.

How to Apply

STEP 1

Complete your application for admission to Moorpark College.
Once your application is processed, you will receive an acceptance email with instructions for activating your MyVCCCD student portal.
Complete the Moorpark College Online Orientation and your applicable English and Math guided self-placement activities.

If you plan to use GI Bill® educational benefits, submit your application directly to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
When completing your application, identify Moorpark College as the school you plan to attend and provide the requested information about your educational program.
Once approved, the VA will issue your Certificate of Eligibility (COE) or applicable benefit authorization documentation. You will need this document to complete your VRC Intake Form.

Getting Started with Chapter 31 at Moorpark College

Maintaining Your Chapter 31 Benefits

• Continue working with your VA VR&E Counselor and Moorpark College VRC Counselor throughout your educational program.

• Review your educational plan each semester, report changes to your major or class schedule, and provide updated academic progress information when requested by your VA VR&E Counselor.

• Contact the VRC and your VA VR&E Counselor before your authorization expires so that any required renewal can be coordinated for your upcoming classes.

Once you receive your Certificate of Eligibility (COE) or applicable benefit authorization documentation, complete the Veteran Student Intake Form.
You must provide a copy of your COE or applicable benefit authorization documentation as part of the intake process.

After completing your educational plan, register for your classes through the MyVCCCD student portal.
Once you have registered for all the classes you intend to take, complete the MC GI Authorization Form to request certification of your eligible courses.

Do not submit this form until your intake, educational plan, and class registration have been completed.
Waitlisted courses cannot be certified until you are officially enrolled.
Complete the applicable VRC authorization process each semester you intend to use your VA educational benefits.

Changes to Your Class Schedule
Contact your VRC Counselor before adding, dropping, or withdrawing from classes.
Changes to your schedule may affect your educational plan, enrollment certification, and VA benefit payments. Dropping or withdrawing from courses may result in an overpayment or debt.

Monthly Enrollment Verification
If your VA benefit program requires monthly enrollment verification, complete it according to the VA's instructions to avoid interruptions in your benefit payments.

Housing Allowance and Course Selection
If you are eligible for a monthly housing allowance, your payment may depend on your enrollment status, course start and end dates, benefit eligibility, and whether your classes are online or in person.
Students taking online-only courses may receive a different housing allowance than students taking qualifying in-person courses.
Review your class schedule with your VRC Counselor before making changes that may affect your housing allowance.

You may apply to Moorpark College and register for classes while waiting for your VA eligibility determination.

However, until you have completed the VRC intake and counseling requirements, provided the required benefit documentation, and had your eligible courses certified for VA educational benefits, you may be responsible for your tuition and fees.

Contact the VRC before the semester begins if you are waiting for your COE or have questions about tuition payment and benefit certification.
