Moorpark College Foundation Scholarships are made possible by our amazing community of donors through the Moorpark College Foundation. 

These scholarships celebrate a wide range of student achievements and qualities—academic performance, financial need, field of study, community involvement, leadership, and unique interests.

Through the Moorpark College Foundation Scholarship Application on the Scholarship Manager website, students can apply with just one form and be automatically considered for over 100 different scholarships.

Our system uses an algorithm to match your application with scholarships that fit your qualifications. That means you don’t need to apply for each scholarship individually—your single application works for all eligible awards in our program.

After the application closes, faculty and community committees review matched applications and select recipients based on each donor’s specific criteria.

Every scholarship is unique—some emphasize academic excellence, while others highlight leadership, service, or personal stories.

If you’re selected, you’ll receive an email notification with the next steps and instructions.
To receive your award, you must:

• Continue to meet all eligibility criteria for your scholarship.
• Be enrolled for the Fall 2026 – Spring 2027 academic year.
  • Continuing students: Must remain enrolled at Moorpark College.
  • Transferring students: Must provide their university Student ID number. Scholarship funds will be sent directly to your new institution.

To ensure your application receives full consideration, follow these steps carefully.

✅ Complete All Application Questions

Answer every question in the application to the best of your ability. Be sure to read every question thoroughly. 

🎓 Major

• List your field of study (for example, Biology, Computer Science, Business Administration).
• If you have two majors, list the most relevant one to your career path.
• You can also check with Cristy to decide how to list them strategically and consistently.

📘 Student Status
This question is about your plans for the 2026–2027 academic year, not your current status. Choose the option that best fits you:

• Bachelor at MC: You’ll be starting or continuing in a bachelor’s degree program at Moorpark College.
• Continuing: You’re staying at Moorpark College (not in a bachelor’s program) in Fall 2026.
• Graduating: You’ll complete your program in Fall 2025 or Spring 2026 and won’t be returning.
• Senior in High School: You’ll graduate from high school in Spring 2026.
• Transferring: You’ll transfer to a 4-year college or university starting Fall 2026 or Spring 2027.

📚 Enrollment Status

• Full-time: Usually 12 or more units per semester.
• Exception: If your program defines full-time as fewer than 12 units, you can still check “full-time.”
• Part-time: Fewer units than the full-time requirement in your program.

📄 Upload Your Unofficial Transcript

You’ll need a current unofficial transcript that includes your finalized Fall 2025 grades.

1. Log in to your MyVCCCD portal.
2. Go to Student Records → Unofficial Academic Transcript.
3. When it opens, click the printer icon (top right).
4. Select “Save as PDF” instead of printing.
5. Upload the PDF of your transcript to your scholarship application.

💌 Ask for References

You’ll need at least one reference from someone who knows you in an academic or professional setting (e.g., professor, counselor, supervisor, or coworker).
You can list up to three—more recommendations are better!

📋 Process

• Ask early: Ideally, in early December or as soon as you decide to apply. Give at least two weeks’ notice.
• Provide their info: Enter your recommender’s name and email in the application. They’ll receive a special link and instructions by email.
• What they do: Recommenders complete a short survey and may also upload a formal letter (optional but encouraged).
• Submit your application: You don’t have to wait for recommendations to be done—submit yours first.
• Check in: It’s smart to remind your recommenders before the deadline.

• Completed at least two Anthropology courses

Explain how you intend to use your knowledge of anthropology or archaeology to improve the lives of others. Include how you became interested in anthropology, how Moorpark classes shaped your thinking, and examples of how you’ve applied anthropological knowledge in your life or community.

Bruce Garber Legacy Scholarship

Eligibility:

• Major: Any
• GPA: 3.2 minimum

• Must include a letter of recommendation

How are scholarships different from financial aid?
Think of them as two separate types of support:

• Scholarships are privately funded and have unique criteria, and that’s where the Scholarship Office can help—by guiding you to opportunities, assisting with applications, and answering your questions.

• Financial Aid refers to publicly funded programs like grants, loans, and work-study. The Financial Aid Office supports students with the FAFSA or California Dream Act (CADA) and manages those award packages.

And yes—you can apply for both! Combining scholarships and financial aid can make college much more affordable.

Lower Your College Expenses
Scholarships can help pay for tuition, books, and other school costs. Some also cover things like technology, transportation, or basic living expenses. Each scholarship is different, but they all help make college more affordable.

A solid plan can make the process less stressful—and help you stay focused and confident as you apply.

Try this three-step strategy:

1. Block off time for research.
   Spend one focused session just searching for scholarships. As you go, write down the key details for each one—like the scholarship name, website link, deadline, and what the application requires (essay, letter of recommendation, transcript, etc.). This list will be your roadmap.

   In a separate session, look over your list and plug the deadlines and prep tasks into your calendar. This way, you can map out when to start drafts, request letters, or gather materials—and avoid any last-minute scrambles.
3. Repeat Regularly

Who Can Apply?

This scholarship application is for high school seniors who:

• Are in their Spring semester of senior year, and
• Plan to attend Moorpark College after graduation, and
• Meet one or more of the following:
  • Attend the High School at Moorpark College (HSMC)
  • Have taken dual-enrollment classes at Moorpark College or another VCCCD campus
  • Have previously taken college classes at Moorpark College or within the Ventura County Community College District (VCCCD)

One online scholarship application for high school seniors. Matches students to multiple Moorpark College Foundation scholarships

Includes:

• General application questions
• Three short essays (300 words max each)
• Required document uploads (transcripts)

When Should I Apply?

The application opens: February 23, 2026

The application deadline: March 15, 2026

• Applications must be submitted by the deadline to be considered
• Late or incomplete applications cannot be reviewed
• We recommend starting early so you have time to draft essays and gather documents.

Where Do I Apply?

• Applications are submitted online through the Moorpark College Foundation Scholarship Manager portal.
  • The application will not be available until the listed opening date: February 23, 2026
• You can save your progress and return later
• Essays may be drafted outside the application and pasted in when ready

Before You Begin: Let’s Warm Up Your Thinking

The purpose of these essays isn't to impress anyone with fancy writing. It’s simply to help us understand:

1. What you want to study
2. How you've shown leadership or contributed to your community
3. What financial challenges you’re facing and how support would help

🧭Educational Goals Essay

Prompt: Describe what you plan to study at Moorpark College, why you are interested in that field, and how it connects to your career or future goals.

Key point:This essay helps reviewers understand your goals and what motivates your educational and career direction.

Ask yourself: What do you want to study and why?

• What program, major, or interest area are you drawn to at Moorpark College?
• How did that interest begin?
• Was there a class, teacher, club, project, or personal experience that shaped your interest?
• What kind of career or future do you see this leading to?
• You don’t have to have your whole life planned out—just share your direction.
   

🤝Leadership & Community Essay

Prompt: Share an example of how you’ve contributed to your school, community, or another group. What did you do, what impact did it have, and how do you hope to carry this forward into college or your future?

Key point: This essay shows how you show up in your community and how those experiences shape the kind of student you will be at Moorpark College.

Think about:How do you show up for others?

• Where you’ve been involved: school, sports, clubs, work, family, faith groups, volunteering, etc.
• A moment when you helped someone, supported a group, or took initiative
• What the situation taught you or how it changed your perspective
• How you want to continue contributing at Moorpark College or beyond
• Leadership can be big or small—what matters is impact and growth.
   

💰Financial Impact Essay

Prompt:
Describe a financial challenge your family is experiencing. Explain how it affects your education and how receiving this scholarship would support your success at Moorpark College.

Key point:
This essay helps reviewers understand your financial circumstances and the difference scholarship support can make.

• Start with your specific challenge:
• Examples include:
  • Sharing one device with siblings
  • Needing to work many hours
  • Struggling to afford supplies or transportation
  • Unpredictable family expenses
  • Limited access to quiet study space
  • Living far from campus
• Then ask yourself:
  • How does this challenge make school harder?
  • How would this scholarship help you overcome it?
  • What would be easier, possible, or more achievable with this support?
• This is about connecting a real challenge to a real solution.

Tips for Writing Your Best Work

• Be specific: Use real examples from your life.
• Reflect thoughtfully: Show what you learned, not just what happened.
• Write in your own voice: Be honest and sincere.
• Focus on clarity: You don’t need fancy words—just clear ones.
• Don’t go it alone: You can ask a teacher, counselor, tutor, or writing center for help brainstorming or reviewing your draft.
• Proofread carefully: Check for grammar, clarity, and flow.
• Draft outside the application: You can write your essays in a separate document and paste them in when they’re ready.
• Word limit: Each essay has a 300-word maximum.

Eligibility Criteria:

• Be a graduating high school senior from an accredited high school with the goal to attend a community college and earn a degree or certification, and/or meet transfer requirement
• Be a resident or citizen of the United States of America and its territories or Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) and/or Dream Act eligible
• Have a cumulative high school grade point average of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale
• Commit to enroll as a full-time (minimum of 12 units) student, without interruption, for the entire academic school year at one of the above-mentioned community colleges

Award:  Up to $3,000 per year, varies
